THE Real Estate Institute of Western Australia has proudly announced that two agents have stopped property scammer in their tracks.
REIWA president David Airey has congratulated the members, but said all agents needed to on high alert and to act quickly if they has suspicions.
Airey said REIWA had been working closely with the Western Australian Department of Commerce and WA Police over the last few years to educate members about spotting scams and stopping them and this had clearly been successful.
REIWA has held more than 20 meetings around the state with its members to alert them to the tricks used by scammers and to educate them about the steps needed to prevent them, including 100-point checks and double-checking proposed listings with the confirmed, bona-fide owner details held on file.
“Clearly this hard work has payed off, but it’s apparent from the two attempted scams revealed today that agents need to be more vigilant and should not hesitate to act more quickly if ever there is doubt,” he said.
