GPT has won two international design awards for the Charlestown Square shopping centre and has been recognised as the most sustainable real estate company in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index.
GPT has won a gold award for Sustainable Design and a silver award for Development and Design, at the International Council of Shopping Centres Asia Pacific Shopping Centre Awards in Singapore.
GPT head of development Anthony McNulty said the awards reinforced the importance GPT places on ensuring its shopping centres respond to and connect with the communities in which they operate, today and into the future.
Charlestown Square also boasts Australia’s first retail solar thermal cooling plant.
The group has also being recognised the most sustainable real estate company in the 2012/2013 global Dow Jones Sustainability Index.
“GPT’s approach to environmental sustainability has delivered significant savings to the group since 2005. We have reduced water intensity by 38%, energy intensity by 28%, carbon emission intensity by 36% and improved recycling rates from 29% to 49%. These efforts saw GPT avoid $15.9 million in costs,” GPT CEO Michael Cameron said.
