WESTERN Australia Premier Colin Barnett has announced that Perth Waterfront precinct has been named Elizabeth Quay, in honour of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Barnett said the name was a fitting tribute following the royal visit last year during the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.
“The name ‘Elizabeth Quay’ provides a tangible and significant link to our heritage while the Waterfront project itself is a demonstration of the state government’s commitment to embracing Western Australia’s future,” he added.
Last month marked the officially start of construction on the $440 million project which will transform 10ha of prime riverfront land into a vibrant, contemporary development, set around a 2.7ha inlet and connected by promenades and boardwalks.
