MULTIPLEX has been appointed by Health Infrastructure to deliver the $900 million Westmead hospital redevelopment project in Sydney’s west.
Key components of the works include a 12-storey, 95,550sqm acute services building designed by architects HDR Rice Daubney, located within the Westmead health, education and research precinct.
It will connect the Westmead Hospital and The Children’s Hospital and host adult and paediatric services, including emergency, pharmacy, imagine and operating suites.
One and a half floors will be utilised by the University of Sydney to enhance the integration of education, research and health services delivery.
“We are excited to play such a vital role in the Westmead Redevelopment. With our strong credentials in this sector, we have refined the specialised skills needed to deliver a state-of- the-art hospital facility,” said David Ghannoum, regional managing director of Multiplex.
Multiplex will commit 5% of the total contract price to Aboriginal Participation in Construction, a New South Wales government initiative intending to encourage indigenous Australians’ participation in construction projects.
Initial construction work will begin in June and major works in September, with an anticipated opening in 2020. The development is expected to generate around 1,500 construction jobs per year.
