THE Green Building Council of Australia, in partnership with ICLEI-Local Governments for Sustainability, has launched its new Green Guide to Government Policy at Green Cities 09.
GBCA’s chief executive Romilly Madew said the Green Guide to Government Policy is the first of its kind in Australia, and will help address the somewhat fragmented approach to green building programs and incentives across Australia.
“We’re pleased that every single jurisdiction in Australia participated in this project, enabling us to detail federal, state and capital city financial incentives and support programs which encourage our industry to reduce carbon emissions and build sustainably,” Madew said.
According to the ICLEI Oceania’s chief executive Wayne Wescott said a focus on sustainable buildings is a powerful mechanism for economic stimulus.
“Sustainable building is an investment for the long term. Infrastructure that is not fit for purpose for the 21st century – which means climate change-proofed – is unwise and a poor investment for our country. This website will help support the development of a coherent framework for green buildings across Australia,” Wescott added.
