Land Securities PLC has awarded Bovis Lend Lease the £280 million ($A660 million) contract to design and construct the St David’s 2 retail centre in Cardiff in the United Kingdom.
The project is one of the largest retail projects awarded in the UK this year.
St David 2 will be a retail mixed-used centre comprises approximately 90,000 sqm of retail space, as well as 300 apartments and car parking for 2,500 cars.
Upon completion, the £535 million St David’s 2 development will provide enhancements to the retail and leisure offer of Cardiff city centre, and substantially raise Cardiff’s position as a leading UK and European retail destination.
Anchored by the first John Lewis department store in Wales, the expansion will feature a further 9 major stores, 93 additional shops, 25 restaurants and cafes and city centre living, and a new, state-of-the-art library.
Lend Lease’s chief executive of project management and construction Bob Johnston the project is a significant win for the group’s UK business.
Construction will commence later this year and is expected to be completed in 2009.
