Precast building accelerates delivery of social housing supply

PRECAST building technology company NXT TEC. is collaborating with the Western Australian department of communities to increase social housing supply across the state.

NXT has secured four housing contracts in Ellenbrook as part of the collaboration, with the company to deliver NXT Residential homes utilising its NXT Building System.

The partnership will help the department of communities in reaching its target of delivering 6% increase of social housing by 2023, while also facilitating essential community service delivery in regional areas.

“NXT™ Residential homes boast a remarkable turnaround time of less than six months, with just a four to 10-day period required to reach lock-up stage,” said Natasha Di Ciano, chairman and managing director at NXT TEC.

“This efficiency ensures the prompt delivery of affordable, high-quality, and accessible homes to individuals and families across Western Australia.”

The collaboration is based on a shared vision for innovative housing solutions against the backdrop of Western Australia’s acute affordable housing shortage, with the department focusing on fast delivery times and sustainability.

Last month, the WA government has reached a milestone in its key housing reform delivery, with over 1,300 social homes now added to public housing stock.

While the Department of Communities, recently announced Vinnies WA would manage new a supported accommodation service at the former Murray Hotel in West Perth, which was purchased by the government for $5.515 million earlier this year.

NXT Residential homes are built to a NatHERS 7-star energy rating and utilise precast locally manufactured technologies and suppliers.

The homes are manufactured offsite and assembled onsite by NXT TEC.’s licensed builder, NXT Builds.

This results in a reduced environmental impact compared to traditional construction methods, with the method also requiring fewer people onsite, reducing costs and improving overall productivity and site safety.

Construction of the four homes is expected to be completed before Christmas and will create an estimated 20 jobs over the course of the build.
