Sydney construction and development company Deicorp has received the go ahead to add affordable housing to its mixed-use project in Rhodes.
The planning approval incorporates 48 units of affordable housing to the $463m Marquet & Mary project, which was approved as a State Significant Development Application (SSDA) using Infill Affordable Housing provisions.
The project received the go-ahead by the Canada Bay City Council in May 2024.
Located at the corner of Marquet and Mary streets, the approval permits the construction of an 274-unit tower sitting on a four-storey podium. Plans also include 3,796 sqm of retail and commercial space, a community rooftop terrace and garden plus residential courtyard.
“With its superb location in the heart of Rhodes and on the doorstep of Concord Hospital and Rhodes Station, this was the perfect site to increase the number of apartments and include housing for key and essential workers,” said Fouad Deiri, chairman at Deicorp.
“This project marks a significant step towards increasing density in well-connected middle ring locations while ensuring the inclusion of affordable family homes,” said Craig Baudin, partner at FK.
“Being among the first projects submitted to the State Government under the SSD affordable uplift pathway is an exciting milestone, showcasing how well-designed, medium-density housing can enhance urban centres and provide much-needed homes for families in Sydney. “
