HOUSING Choices WA has been selected by Western Australia’s Cook government to construct and operator a new 30-dwelling community housing development in Busselton.
The proposed four-storey development on Brown Street will have a mix of 16 social and 14 affordable housing options, located close to the Busselton CBD and local services.
The 2,034 sqm development site is part of the Cook government’s Housing Diversity Pipeline, to maximise the potential of “lazy” government land to bolster social and affordable housing.
Housing Choices WA is a community housing provider managing social community neighbourhoods for 3,000 people in the Perth, Peel, and South-West regions. As the preferred proponent, it will partner with the state government, through DevelopmentWA, throughout the project and upon completion will operate the complex – providing tenancy, maintenance and placemaking services for the building and its residents – with the Department of Communities.
The development will be built to silver Liveable Homes standards with a minimum 6-star NatHERS rating.
A development application is expected to be lodged by the end of this month by Housing Choices WA.
WA Housing Minister John Carey said the Busselton project will offer and create an accessible and affordable housing project for one of the South West’s busiest communities.
“Our government is unlocking lazy government land through the Housing Diversity Pipeline to maximise the potential of the land for social and affordable housing.
The government has made a $3.2 billion investment in housing and homelessness measures. Last month it passed the 2,500 mark in social homes added to the state’s public housing stock.
