THREE decades ago, Melbourne property developer Max Beck, then chief executive of Becton, decided, given his good fortune in life, he needed to help others.
Since through various charities and the ongoing support of the Mornington Peninsula Bay Riders, Beck has raised more than $1 million, but has also encouraged so many other Melburnians to raise funds for the Portsea Camp for children.
Now in his 80s, Beck, alongside his mates from the Sorrento Bay Riders and other Peninsula cycling groups, will hit the road for the Stride or Ride Charity event on Sunday, November 10.
To get more people involved this year’s event will allow walkers and runners to participate. And, if you don’t want to run, walk or cycle, you can just donate to this long-standing children’s charity.
Beck, who trains 200 kilometres a week with the Sorrento Bay Riders, takes the fundraising element of the event very seriously.
“Life’s about putting back,” Beck told APJ this week.
“It is always a great feeling helping those in need, especially disadvantaged children.
“To take ‘cycling with my mates,’ something I am passionate about and have the opportunity to make a difference to young people impacted by economic and social disadvantage, is incredibly rewarding.”
Max emphasised the importance of donating to the community or volunteering time and services.
“Every person can help change a life”
The Stride or Ride charity event aims to raise $50,000, providing inclusive wellness and Making a Difference programs that build confidence and resilience and promote healthy bodies and minds whilst fostering a positive sense of self.
For over 75 years, the Portsea Camp has been a haven and lifeline for thousands of children, supporting disadvantaged and vulnerable kids through tailored wellness programs and camps. You can join Max and the Bay Riders in making a real difference in the lives of Victorian children.
