NOT-for-profit Homes for Homes has now granted more than $1 million in total funds in the ACT, with its recent $200,000 grant to support a social and affordable housing project in the capital.
The recipient for the grant is Marymead CatholicCare Canberra & Goulburn, who will establish multi-functional transitional housing for those experiencing homelessness, children from foster care breakdowns, children transitioning out of foster care and disability respite, known as Pete’s Place.
“Homes for Homes is a whole-of-community approach to one of the most critical social issues we face as a country. We’re excited to continue our funding in the ACT and support the creation of a new social and affordable housing project,” said Steven Persson, CEO at Homes for Homes.
This latest grant marks the seventh round of funding for social and affordable housing projects and the fifth round in the ACT.
With Homes for Homes grant rounds contributing more than $2 million in funding overall across 22 social and housing projects to provide housing for more than 300 people.
“Reaching $1.1m funds granted in the ACT is an incredible milestone, and we thank everyone who has helped us so far,” added Persson.
“We look forward to continuing our work of providing safe, secure housing for all, and hope that the ACT community can keep supporting our mission of creating a nation without homelessness.”
The latest round of funding was made possible through property donors including PEXA, Capital Estate Developments and the Homes for Homes community.
Homes for Homes raises funds through donors, including both individuals and developers, who register their property to enable a tax-deductible donation of 0.1% of the property’s sale price or monthly rent to be donated.
The grant round also provided funding for the first time to a project in South Australia, with $100,000 going towards Community Equity Housing South Australia.
Community Equity Housing South Australia will establish five two-bedroom units including communal gardens and areas for low-income elderly singles and couples to age in place.
