THE Community Housing Ltd (CHL) has entered a partnership with the South Australia Housing Authority (SAHA) and will deliver 41 new mode social housing units in Prospect.
The project will see the redevelopment of two underutilised sites in Prospect, around 5km north of the Adelaide city centre, and will comprise much needed housing for older women at risk of homelessness and women escaping domestic violence.
The homes have been made possible through grant funding under the Social Housing Accelerator and will be developed with an equity contribution from CHL.
“We are excited to continue our long-term partnership with the SA Government on this vital project,” said Danny Dracic CEO at CHL.
“These new homes will not only provide safe and secure housing for women in need but also reinforce our ongoing commitment to addressing the critical need for social housing in the region.”
Local builder Sarah Constructions has been appointed to deliver the new homes, with construction set to commence in early 2025.
“These projects are a testament to the collaborative efforts of all the partners in delivering quality, affordable housing solutions to some of the most vulnerable in our community,” said Cam Bryson, South Australian state manager for CHL.
“By partnering with local experts and builders, we ensure that our developments are both innovative and responsive to the community’s needs. CHL is committed not just to expanding its portfolio, but to making a tangible difference in the lives of those who need it most.”
In an effort to address the housing crisis in South Australia, the Malinauskas government announced it will abolish stamp duty for all first homebuyers and invest over half a billion dollars to develop two major housing developments with a minimum 15% affordable housing and 30% social housing.
While back in January, the government announced it would rezone more land across the state to see 1,000 new homes are built in metropolitan Adelaide.
