CONSTRUCTION is underway on 12 new social homes for seniors in Brunswick, outside of Western Australia’s Bunbury, which were funded by a nearly-$5 million state government housing grant.
The new homes in the Brunswick River Cottages development are being constructed by D Prosser Pty Ltd, and are being built under a partnership between Brunswick River Cottages and the Shire of Harvey, backed by the Cook government grant.
“These new homes are being delivered as a direct result of our Government’s record $2.6 billion investment in housing and homeless measures,” said Western Australia Housing Minister John Carey.
The current government has added more than 2,000 new social homes to state, with another 1,000 are under construction or contract, as part of its ultimate goal of delivering 4,000 new social homes.
“It’s vital we ensure we are delivering homes where they are needed for vulnerable people in the Murray-Wellington community and assist people where possible to age in place,” said Murray-Wellington MLA Robyn Clarke.
The Western Australian government has been urged to set up a $2 billion affordable rental housing scheme, with thousands of affordable homes expected to be lost to the private market by the end of 2026.
