BRISBANE Airport is kicking off the construction of its largest industrial project, the state-of-the-art $50 million Australia Post parcel facility.
The Brisbane North Parcel Facility for Australia Post’s StarTrack is set to become the postal service’s second largest facility in Queensland, spanning 31,800sqm of internal area.
BAC is managing the design and delivery of the site, which will boast direct airside access from the 100-hectare Airport Industrial Park.
With Airport Industrial Park strategically located with transport access to air, road and sea through the Port of Brisbane and adjacent industrial suburbs.
“This will be the largest industrial project ever constructed at Brisbane Airport,” said Gert-Jan de Graff, CEO at Brisbane Airport.
“By providing Australia Post with direct airside access, we’re streamlining the delivery of time-sensitive parcels, benefitting millions of Queenslanders in the South East and regional areas of the state.
“Not only do we offer direct tarmac access, but Brisbane’s arterial road network is right on our doorstep. We are proud to develop projects that enable Queensland to grow and connect to the world.”
The 33,800sqm facility will include a custom-built 31,800sqm warehouse, as well as a two-level 2000 sqm commercial office space, with parking for 350 cars.
The new centre will be able to process up to 176,000 parcels each day and scale up in peak periods, with automation and security features to boost safety and efficiency for the 200 workers on shift at any time.
Australia Post will join existing and future tenants include Martin Brower, Aramex Australia, Superior Food Services and Air Menzies.
The facility will also target a 5-Star Green Star certification for energy and water efficiency, climate change resilience and reduced environmental impacts during construction.
In addition to including more than 1,000 solar panels for renewable energy generation, bringing the project in line with BAC’s goal of net zero emissions in 2025.
With earth works underway, the construction phase is set to generate around 1,500 jobs with the facility due to be operational in mid-2025.
The industrial expansion is part of Brisbane Airports $5 billion Future BNE program which includes upgrades to the Domestic Terminal, International Terminal and planning for a new Terminal 3.
While a few weeks back, construction commenced on the $90 million carpark expansion project to for Brisbane Airport’s Domestic Terminal.
