PROPERTY industry veteran Barry Johnston has been named as the new president of the Real Estate Institute of NSW (REINSW).
Johnston brings more than three decades of industry experience to the role. He founded Sydney-based agency Balmoral Partners in 1997 and over the years has worked as an agent, for listed property trusts and as a consultant representing a range of clients across sectors. His experience extends to direct work with government, as part of the former State Authorities Superannuation Board, as well as with international property giant Goodman Group.
Johnston said training and support will be a key focus for the REINSW under his leadership.
“It’s a privilege to have the opportunity to lead the peak body for the industry in our state and to collaborate with the Institutes across other jurisdictions to address the challenges and opportunities for people who work in real estate and for consumers too.
“In 2024 and beyond, we intend to increase the scope of training and support we provide agents, including a renewed focus on commercial agent training for our members.
“We will also continue to work closely with government to ensure the industry’s perspective on new legislation is heard, in support of practical, workable outcomes for real estate practitioners and consumers.”
Johnston’s two-year tenure as president commences this month. He takes the reins from outgoing president Peter Matthews.
