CONSTRUCTION is set to begin on Brisbane Airport’s next development, as demand for industrial warehousing space at the airport soars.
Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) is delivering a rolling inventory of developments in order to accommodate more tenants.
This will include the new Boronia Road development comprising a 17,000sqm site with approximately 8,600sqm of lettable area, in stage one of Airport Industrial Park’s 100-hectare zone.
The development will comprise a 7,800sqm warehouse, a 750sqm two-level office building, with 73 car parking bays.
“Brisbane Airport continues to experience strong demand for its highly connected industrial sites, in part because of their unparalleled transport links and 24/7 operational capacity,” said Martin Ryan, executive general manager of commercial at BAC.
“We are excited that more businesses will be able to take advantage of our premium high-amenity sites. This is why Brisbane Airport is continuing to invest in proactive developments like at Airport Industrial Park.”
The development will be built over a 12-month construction phase, involving more than 700 workers.
The airport has 24/7 capacity, enabling round-the-clock operations and continuous service or production.
Key amenities are also located just minutes from the site at the Skygate mixed-use retail, commercial and leisure precinct.
The facilities are targeting a 5 Star Green Star rating and will include solar, rainwater harvesting, electric vehicle charging units and the use of low carbon products and materials.
In April, BAC announced it would deliver a new 26,120sqm office and warehouse for logistics giant Aramex Australia, comprising approximately 25,070sqm of NLA, an office of 1,050sqm NLA and 157 car parking bays and racks for 14 bicycles plus end-of-trip facilities.
“Freight demand in Australia is growing significantly with government estimates predicting a 60 per cent jump to service urban areas by 2040,’’ said Ryan.
“At Brisbane Airport, we are well placed to meet that demand with the expertise and connections to deliver high-quality developments that meet the needs of global and local tenants.’’
The Brisbane Airport is occupied by more than 125 businesses, including Direct Couriers, Miele Australia, Downer, DHL, Australia Post, Schneider Electric and GEODIS.
The construction phase of the Boronia Road development is due to be completed in mid-2024.
