CONSTRUCTION is complete on 10 new social housing units in Caboolture, as part of the Queensland government’s record $5 billion investment in social and affordable homes.
The Caboolture site was previously occupied by two homes and have since been replaced by ten one- and two-bedroom homes for singles, couples and families.
“Our big social housing build and record $5 billion investment is delivering for Queenslanders,” said Meaghan Scanlon, minister for housing.
“We know that having access to safe and secure housing and the stability of a place to call home makes a big difference in many aspects of people’s lives.”
The first tenants at the four one-bedroom and six two-bedroom homes are set to move in shortly, with residents including seniors, people with disabilities and young people.
“We know that there is a need for more social housing, and we are delivering these homes for those that need them the most. These units are a welcome addition to the more than 5,500 social housing homes we have here in the Moreton Bay region and we’re building even more,” said Mark Ryan, member for Morayfield.
“In fact, we have 100 homes currently under construction in the region and an additional 141 homes under contract to be delivered in the near future.”
Two of the units have been designed to platinum accessibility levels while another two have been built to gold standard, making them suitable for older Queenslanders and people with a disability.
The platinum and gold standards mean the units feature wider hallways and doors, allowing greater accessibility for people with decreased mobility and people who use a wheelchair.
The units add to the more than 400 homes delivered by the Queensland government in Moreton Bay region.
“There are hundreds of homes under construction across the state, with hundreds more to commence construction in the coming months,” concluded Scanlon.
