CONSTRUCTION has begun on Walker Corporation’s first A-Grade commercial office tower on the Sunshine Coast, a key plank in the $2.5 billion evolution of the Maroochydore City Centre.
Over 800 jobs are earmarked for the 15 floors at 50 First Avenue, which will feature a grand lobby space with soaring ceilings, concierge and café with a panoramic rooftop providing views of the beach and the hinterland.
The tower will offer some of Maroochydore’s largest floors, measuring greater than 1,000 sqm per level.
Minutes from the beach, the 53-hectare Maroochydore City Centre project Priority Development Area will deliver 240,000 sqm of commercial and retail space, 4,000 apartments, a hotel, railway station, as well as public open spaces and parkland.
The Maroochydore City Centre Priority Development Area is being delivered through a partnership between Sunshine Coast Council, Walker Maroochydore Developments Pty Ltd and SunCentral Maroochydore Pty Ltd. The agreement will see over $2.5 billion of private sector investment flow into the project over the coming decade.
Queensland Deputy Premier Steven Miles said construction is powering ahead at Maroochydore City Centre.
“The Sunshine Coast is one of the fastest growing regions and developing economies in the country,” he said.
“People are moving to the Sunshine Coast in droves thanks to the employment opportunities and great lifestyle.
“Maroochydore is the major economic hub of the Sunshine Coast and the Queensland Government will continue to support the delivery of this new city centre providing economic development and much-needed infrastructure.”
Walker Corporation CEO David Gallant said 50 First Avenue will build on the growing sophistication of the Maroochydore City Centre and “has the ability to attract big tenants and create hundreds of great jobs”.
Sunshine Coast Council Mayor Mark Jamieson said, “50 First Avenue will introduce a next-level standard of commercial office accommodation to the Maroochydore City Centre with outstanding sustainability credentials to match”.
50 First Avenue will be built to achieve a 5-star NABERS rating.
SunCentral chair Morgan Parker said, “Maroochydore City Centre continues to grow rapidly as our region’s central hub for commerce, technology and innovation and spectacular buildings like 50 First Avenue will become the benchmark for our future success”.
