WORKS are now underway at Home Tasmania’s 11-lot subdivision in Devonport, which will provide much needed land for social housing supply to the state.
The 1-hectare site at 39A North Fenton Street will deliver a range of lot sizes for a variety of homes including terrace-style properties, family homes and multi-dwelling developments. In addition to providing for social housing and purpose-built homes for people who need support with accommodation.
Located on the only Inner Residential-zoned land in the Cradle Coast Region, on the northern fringe of the Devonport CBD, making it well placed near commercial, community and public services, local amenities and employment opportunities.
“It was fantastic to turn the first sod on Homes Tasmania’s new 11-lot subdivision in Devonport,” said Guy Barnett, minister for state development, construction and housing.
“The subdivision will provide more Tasmanians with the opportunity to buy their own home, with the majority of lots anticipated to be made available for affordable home ownership.”
The former home of Devonport Bowls and Croquet Club, the site was purchased by the Tasmanian government for residential housing when the clubs moved to a new facility.
Walters Construction was awarded the $$763,000 civil works contract to deliver critical works to enable development at the site.
The project is part of the government’s larger 10-year $1.5 billion housing package, the largest housing investment in the history of Tasmania.
The housing package will deliver 1500 social and affordable homes by June 2023, with over 800 homes to be completed by the end of February 2023.
The newly established Homes Tasmania authority was conceived to be more innovative and efficient to build social and affordable dwellings faster to help Tasmanians in need.
