WORKS are now underway at the new Broadmeadows Health and Community Centre of Excellence, which was supported by a $60 million investment from the Victorian government.
The new Kangan Institute centre, located around 15km out from the CBD, is set to bring crucial training for jobs in health and community services in Melbourne’s north and is set to generate 300 jobs throughout the construction phase.
The facility will deliver courses in aged care, mental health, disability, pathology, allied health, and early childhood education and care.
“We’re delivering a new health and community training centre in the heart of Broadmeadows so students in the northern suburbs have access to world-class training facilities, securing more workers in priority industries and building key skills for the future,” said Gayle Tierney, minister for training and skills and higher education, who turned the first sod at the site.
To be built at Kangan Institute’s Broadmeadows campus on Pearcedale Parade, the centre will feature flexible learning spaces, state-of-the-art laboratories for health simulation and outdoor spaces.
“This huge investment will be the Jewel in the crown for Kangan Broadmeadows, providing locals with the high-quality training needed for the State’s most rewarding and in-demand jobs,” said Kathleen Matthews-Ward, member for Broadmeadows.
Kangan Institute has so far signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) with local healthcare providers such as DPV Health and Northern Health.
The $60 million support from the state government is part of a broader record investment of $3.5 billion into TAFE since 2014.
“The Health and Community Centre of Excellence will deliver the health and community training needed to support the growing northern corridor, with students and teachers learning and teaching in state-of-the-art facilities,” concluded Sally Curtain, CEO at Kangan Institute.
With construction now officially underway, the new Broadmeadows Health and Community Centre of Excellence is expected to be completed in late-2024.
