WORK has commenced at the former-CSIRO site based in Highett, Victoria for the $500 million plus project by local and privately owned developer Sunkin Property Group.
The site is located on Graham Road and spans 9.63 hectares. It is set to be transformed into a multi-use project by Sunkin Property Group after approval was granted from the Bayside City Council in March.
Sunkin has recruited Delta Group in a multi-million dollar contract to begin the 12-month program that will see this transformation of the site occur.
Within the costs, over $10 million will be invested in infrastructure for the large project. This includes new roads, the replacement of the Melbourne drain and numerous local service upgrades over the next 12 months.
Sunkin Property Group has earmarked over 1000 residences for the site as they plan to establish a multi-generational community that’s home to apartments and townhouses. They plan to gift 40% of the site back to the community with features such as a 1-hectare public park with a children’s playground and social areas as well as a 3-hectare conservation reserve.
Committed to a low-carbon economy, Sunkin is also doing its part to target net zero, with plans for environmentally sustainable design practices.
Sunkin lodged a Planning Permit Application for Stage 1 of the project which includes two apartment buildings and a collection of townhouses, all located adjacent to the proposed public park and serviced by the infrastructure works.
Further additions to the development include wellness and fitness facilities such as a resident’s gym. A new public library has been proposed and will also be a welcome feature for the wider community.
Sunkin Property Group’s general manager of property Lloyd Collins believes the project can help with the expected growth of Melbourne’s population.
“This development will be of significant community benefit due to improved infrastructure and additional amenities, including the new park and conservation area for the public to enjoy.”
“It will also provide greater housing diversity while catering to the forecast population growth within Melbourne and the Bayside area more specifically,” he said.
Delta Group’s founder and managing director, Con Petropoulos, is looking forward to linking with Sunkin for this project.
“Delta Group is extremely proud to partner with Sunkin by setting the groundwork, road and services infrastructure for this significant community development. Delta Group is excited to get started and take part in reviving this Bayside site.”
