THE Big Issue’s social and affordable housing not-for-profit Homes for Homes is opening a new grant round in the ACT and Victoria.
This latest $400,000 grant funding round for social and affordable housing projects will open to providers from Monday 12 September, with the funding split evenly between the state and territory.
This will also be the first time Homes for Homes is granting funds in a specific local government area (LGA), with $100,000 the funding available for Victoria specifically for projects in the City of Casey.
“Homes for Homes is on track to be the largest non-government funder of social and affordable housing. We are thrilled to again be granting funds across the ACT and Victoria. These funds are a direct result of the generosity of homeowners and developers paying it forward to help create housing for those in our community who need it most,” said Steven Persson, CEO at Homes for Homes.
Homes for Homes provides funding for housing projects through donations from property sales, with developers and homeowners in this round including Canberra suburb Denman Prospect, Development Victoria’s Taylors Quarter project and Balcon’s Orana development in the Victorian City of Casey.
“We thank all those who have registered their properties with Homes for Homes and those who contributed to this new grant round, in particular our strong partnership with Capital Estate Developments and Balcon Group,” added Persson.
With both Denman Prospect, by Capital Estate Developments, and Orana, by Balcon Group, registering all their properties with Homes for Homes and donating 0.1% of the sale of each block.
This is the sixth round of grants by the not-for-profit, with Homes for Homes having received more than $2 million in donation and granting $1.28 million to providers in the ACT, NT, Victoria and Queensland so far.
This funding has at this stage seen 13 affordable and social housing projects delivered, providing housing for 96 people.
This latest round comes after recent rounds for NSW and WA for up to $160,000 and for Queensland and the NT for $138,000, both of which were the first grants for each state and territory since Homes for Homes launched in 2015.
Applications for funding are open from 12 September and are due to close on 14 October 2022.
