BRISBANE Airport Corporation (BAC) is commencing the second stage of its Airport Industrial Park, bringing in jobs for both the future and the immediate.
With BAC commencing civil works on the 26.5-hectare industrial land site as soon as this month to meet growing demand for industrial operations at Brisbane Airport, more than 440 jobs are expected to be generated in the construction phase alone.
Upon completion, Stage 2 of the 100-hectares masterplanned industrial park will accommodate more than 1,400 direct jobs, with thousands more indirect roles also anticipated.
“The demand for well-connected industrial sites is the highest it has been in decades,” said Martin Ryan, executive general manager of commercial at BAC.
“Businesses increasingly want premium, high-amenity sites that have been developed with sustainability top of mind, which also allow 24/7 operational capacity. That is exactly what we offer here at Brisbane Airport.”
The growing demand industrial in the area is being largely driven by the accelerated penetration of e-commerce and resulting logistics services seen throughout the first years of the COVID-19 pandemic.
On top of this, existing tenants at Airport Industrial Park are also looking to increase their warehousing and office presence at the site.
The park is currently occupied by more than 425 businesses, including Direct Couriers, Miele Australia, Downer, DHL, Australia Post, and The Pool Tile Company.
The businesses at the park also employ 24,000 workers, though this is anticipated to reach 60,000 in 2050, with wages generating more than $1.5 billion.
“We are proud to have some of Australia’s most innovative companies that provide services to millions of consumers and other businesses across Queensland and northern NSW. Our unparalleled transport links and development flexibility makes operations more efficient and productive for our tenants,” added Ryan.
Civil earth works for Stage 2 of Airport Industrial Park are scheduled to commence in July 2022, with development to commence in 2025.
“We look forward to welcoming a new range of businesses to the precinct when the second stage of Airport Industrial Park is developed,” concluded Ryan.
On top of this, BAC is also set to deliver a $72 million Queensland Regional Aeromedical Base, due for a 2024 completion.
