LANDCOM has found its new CEO in Alex Wendler, following John Brogden’s retirement from the role in November last year.
The NSW Government property developer’s Board of Directors has announced that Wendler will commence in the new position from 30 May 2022, after a thorough recruitment process.
“Alex is an established leader in the property and infrastructure industry with experience in both the public and private sector, said Peter Roberts, chair of Landcom.
Wendler has served as the chief development officer for government agency Transport for NSW, for over two years. Having also worked in director positions at Macquarie Group for over a decade, before beginning work with government agencies in 2017.
“He has a track record of successfully developing projects in core Landcom business areas, having led urban renewal projects across the Transport cluster including city-changing precinct redevelopments at Sydney’s Central Station, Circular Quay, and Redfern North Eveleigh,” added Roberts.
Roberts also noted the crucial significance of partnerships to ensure the success of Landcom, which Wendler will be able to strengthen, maintain and expand as CEO.
“Alex has a clear mandate from the Board to continue to deliver more affordable and sustainable communities for the people of NSW with an unwavering focus on our customers, our partners, and our people,” said Roberts.
Landcom has so far across its 45-year history as a State Owned Corporation working with government, private and not-for-profit sectors delivered over 100,000 homes to NSW.
“I want to continue to build on Landcom’s strengths while at the same time levering my skills in the public and private spheres to make a difference,” said Wendler.
“Tackling the issues of housing supply, affordability, and diversity will require partnerships across Government and with the private sector and it is important we maintain the momentum already underway.”
Wendler added that he aims to continue Landcom’s emphasis on developing great places that are sustainable, integrated and walkable, while also targeting innovations that advance outcomes for both its customers and the property sector more broadly.
“We are in a period of significant technological, environmental and social change, and I look forward to ensuring Landcom remains at the forefront of the industry,” added Wendler.
Landcom announced last year that its current CEO John Brogden would be stepping down come the end of his contract this month, after four years in the top job and six years on the board, in order to focus on his mental health.
Brogden is the president of Lifeline International and will continue to work with the global suicide prevention and crisis support organisation, known for its hotline.
