A $70 million retail and lifestyle precinct in south eastern Brisbane has been given the green light, with construction to start early next year on a site held by the Wong family for over 50 years.
Paradise Garden Pty Ltd – owned by the Wong family – and advised by Development Directive will deliver the 7,750sqm retail centre and 1.4 hectares of neighbouring parkland for community use in Thornlands.
Located on the corner of Boundary Road and Panorama Drive in Thornlands, the precinct will include a full-line supermarket, specialty stores, service station, pharmacy and medical centre, family friendly tavern, drive-through fast food and a number of alfresco dining options within a landscaped dining precinct.
A leasing program is now underway, while the exact number of shops, restaurants and commercial tenancies is yet to be determined.
There will also be 167 undercover car parks and 236 on-grade car parks.
Redland City Mayor Cr Karen Williams said, “We are pleased a development of this calibre will be delivered in the Thornlands area.
“It is encouraging to see such considered design combining retail and dining with a significant portion of green space, to create family friendly amenity the whole community can enjoy.
“The project will create additional job opportunities for locals and will significantly contribute to retail and commercial activity in the area.”
A one and a half year development timeframe is expected, and construction of the centre is expected to create about 270 part-time, full-time and casual retail jobs.
A builder is yet to be appointed.
Development Directive senior consultant Peter Macgregor, “We are proud that this development really pushes the envelope on what people expect from a community centre.
“This is a direct result of the Wong family’s passion for the Thornlands area, they have held the site for more than 50 years and have watched the local area grow over time.”
