REINSW has found its new president in founder and CEO of Realtair, Peter Matthews.
Matthews will begin his two-year term as president with an emphasis on communicating members prime concern to the government.
“Agents have been focused on navigating the COVID environment in recent times. Now, with operating conditions returning to normal, it’s a matter of getting to work on what the future of the industry looks like,” said Matthews.
Matthews also highlighted his intention to lead REINSW in pushing for further reform, particularly in seeing the appointment of a dedicated expert regulator for the industry.
“There is no shortage of regulation in the industry but there is a disconnect between compliance and delivering on consumers’ contemporary expectations. We’re focused on reform with the potential to deliver better consumer outcomes,” said Matthews.
Matthews also named reforms to strata laws and how they relate to accessibility as among his top priorities in taking the leadership position.
“REINSW will also continue the work on the path to professionalism for the industry. On this score, having navigated the COVID environment, we’re ready to make new strides forward.”
CEO and co-owner of the Laing+Simmons network, Leanne Pilkington is stepping down from the role after four years, though as a long-term member she will remain on the REINSW board.
“I’ve been fortunate to work with Leanne with the REINSW over the past few years and it’s a testament to her talent, commitment and influence that she’s so admirably led the industry through one of the most challenging periods in our history,” said Matthews.
In addition to heading up REINSW throughout the COIVD-19 pandemic and its many impacts upon the industry, Pilkington oversaw a 600% increase in educational and training standards for agents.
“The REINSW is in a strong position to continue to represent the interests of the industry, which is the state’s largest economic contributor, and we have the ideal platform to continue the important work on the transformational initiatives we have in motion,” concluded Matthews.
