Landcom chief executive John Brogden will step down from his role when his contract ends in May next year to focus on his work in mental health.
Brogden has been CEO of the NSW government’s land and property development organisation for four years and chair for six years, and is the president of Lifeline International and will continue to work with Lifeline Australia.
“I will continue my business career and also devote more time to the work of Lifeline and suicide prevention in Australia and globally.”
Landcom chair Peter Roberts said that during his tenure, Brogden had worked tirelessly in challenging conditions to tackle housing affordability and create sustainable communities across Landcom’s $659 million portfolio.
“John is a leader with extraordinary drive, passion and commitment who has built Landcom’s mission to make it easier for people to buy a home, while also setting the benchmark for environmental sustainability, liveability and accessibility,” Roberts said.
“Most recently, John’s strong leadership helped Landcom navigate continued successful operations and staff morale during the extremely difficult COVID-19 pandemic period.
Brogden said while it was a difficult decision to leave Landcom, he felt now was the right time.
“During the COVID-19 pandemic I have seen just how important the fight for suicide prevention, better mental health in the community and psychological safety in the workplace is to our wellbeing,” Brogden said.
In the 45 years since it was created, Landcom has developed over 220 projects and 100,000 homes, and this year achieved second place in Australia and Oceania amongst residential developers in the GRESB, formerly the Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark.
