FLEETWOOD Limited has been appointed one of the suppliers for Melbourne’s new Centre for National Resilience, after securing a $32 million subcontract.
The 1000-bed purpose built facility to be developed in Mickleham, 29 kilometres north of Melbourne, will be funded and owned by the Federal Government, with the site to be operated by the Victorian Government throughout the pandemic.
“Fleetwood is delighted to be playing a key role in the response to the COVID-19 pandemic and Australia’s road to recovery,” said Bruce Nicholson, CEO of Fleetwood Limited.
Fleetwood was chosen by Multiplex, the principal contractor for the project, to supplier modular buildings, with Fleetwood being recognised as a leading supplier of modular construction in the education, health, custodial, mining and affordable housing sectors.
“This is an outstanding outcome for the Company and highlights the strengths of using innovative offsite manufacturing to deliver highly effective and efficient products with strong sustainability credentials,” added Nicholson.
Fleetwood will use its manufacturing facilities in both Victoria and Queensland to build he needed modular accommodation units.
“We are also confident that this contract will bode well for opportunities to take part in subsequent expansions and new facility builds that are being proposed,” said Nicholson.
Multiplex is aiming to see the first 500 beds delivered and operational by the end of 2021, with works beginning in August while 80% of the buildings are to be prefabricated off-site.
“Our staff and shareholders should also be very proud that their Company, in this partnership with the Commonwealth, is helping deliver the solution for Australians to return to a normal way-of-life,” concluded Nicholson.
