NEXTDC has appointed Multiplex to deliver stage 1 of the S3 data centre in Sydney’s lower north shore and AirTrunk has opened one of the largest data centres in Sydney’s north (SYD2).
This appointment follows Multiplex’s successful delivery of Nextdc’s new generation of high-rise hyperscale data centres including P2 Perth, a 20MW facility in Perth’s CBD, and the high quality completion of S2 Sydney, a 30MW facility in Macquarie Park which achieved full fit-out in July 2020.
Located at 2 Broadcast Way, Artamon Nextdc’s new S3 data centre will see a gross floor area of approximately 34,000 sqm over eight storeys and deliver more than 20,000 sqm of IT space. This will comprise of approximately 26,770 sqm of data halls and ancillary infrastructure.
Designed by architects Greenbox, the project will also include a range of amenities for tenants including comfortable workspaces, collaboration zones, car parking and over approx. 4,000 sqm of critical office space.
S3 Sydney is the third and largest Nextdc data centre in Sydney and will directly interconnect to the existing S1 and S2 Sydney data centres.
“We are thrilled to be appointed to this innovative project and continue our ongoing partnership with Nextdc. We’re excited to draw upon our experience building ground-breaking high-rise data centres and help expand NEXTDC’s world-class operation of data centres across Australia,” Multiplex regional managing director NSW David Ghannoum said.
Construction has commenced and the facility will be fully operational in H2 FY22.
Meanwhile Asia-Pacific hyperscale data specialist, AirTrunk, has opened one of the largest Australian data centres in Sydney’s north (SYD2), building upon its existing sister facilities in Sydney’s west (SYD1) and Melbourne (MEL1).
Sitting on 3.95ha of land, AirTrunk is ready to scale out the data centre to over 110MW of total capacity to support customer growth. It was built in just 35 weeks – a record time despite COVID-19 impacts.
