MULTIPLEX has been appointed as the stage two main works contractor for the new Sydney Fish Market redevelopment.
The NSW government has chosen Multiplex for its “extensive experience delivering large and complex buildings and construction projects both here and abroad.”
The new Sydney Fish Market will be at the centre of the NSW Governments redevelopment of the Blackwattle Bay Precinct into a waterfront destination.
The project intends to modernise and upgrade the Fish Market, to create a sustainable site which showcases fresh seafood to locals and tourists.
The project should create 700 construction jobs and once the markets open in 2024 another 700 in on-going jobs.
This new location will mean that the current Sydney Fish Market is able to remain open and full operational throughout the construction of the new site
The market and surrounding public spaces will feature design by Danish architects 3XN and Sydney firms BN and Aspect Studios.
The early works phase of the development is being managed by Hansen Yuncken and are on schedule for a safe handover to Multiplex. This first stage has included the removal of marine piles and repairs to the existing sea wall.
Construction on the new Sydney Fish Market and the surrounding public spaces will commence in 2021 by Multiplex.
