STAGE one works have been completed at the Peel Business Park in Nambeelup, readying the first 10 lots in the business park that is a centrepiece of the Western Australia government’s $49 million Transform Peel Initiative.
Eight of these lots have been sold to a range of local organisations and businesses, including Westurn Engineering, Mandurah Glass, Bells Engines, the Shire of Murray’s Agri-Innovation Precinct and the Department of Fire and Emergency Services’ Bushfire Centre of Excellence.
More than 160 long term jobs are expected to be created by the businesses’ presence in the region.
Bulk earthworks, civil works and trunk power infrastructure were part of stage one. Contracts have been issued to Total Eden for landscaping and to Peel-based contractor Wormall Civil for offsite water and sewer extensions. Wormall Civil is also completing upgrades to Lakes Rd and Gull Rd that will service stage one of the business park, with work expected to be completed by October.
The estate includes sustainable approaches to material re-use in the landscaping works and responsible environmental management.
DevelopmentWA’s Industrial Land Authority is developing the first stage of the park. Its forerunner LandCorp launched a formal campaign seeking agribusiness, technology, logistics and industrial tenants three years ago.
The business park will ultimately comprise a 1,000-hectare estate, with the first precinct totalling 120 hectares.
WA Lands Minister Ben Wyatt said the Transform Peel initiative has potential to inject $1 billion a year into the state’s economy by 2050 and create more than 33,000 jobs.
