THE Australian Property Institute is holding its 2020 National Board election. The API is urging members to cast their vote and help shape the future of the Institute. Chris Knight is one of the candidates seeking to be elected to the national board of the API.
- What is your interest to come on board with the Australian Property Institute?
As a keen member of the Institute I have enjoyed participating in the creation of the new API under the new leadership, and am extremely excited with contribution to the further advancing of the industry with the strategy and initiatives that are now in place.
- What financial experience or expertise do you bring to the API?
As a leader of a large business my financial awareness enables the ability as a director to assist guide and contribute to the already very capable management team along with the other directors to ensure sound fiscal planning, management and decision making occurs on a continual basis.
- What governance experience do you bring to the API?
Reporting to a board personally in my private experience I am fully aware of the governance obligations and requirements needed to ensure that governance remains front of mind, in place and reviewed regularly. I feel the API governance has improved considerably with further time and greater talent in the new and always improving National structure.
- What strategic planning experience do you bring to the API?
Strategy is extremely important to the success of all organisations, and I feel strongly that the ability to have a lens to improving core business initiatives from a strategic lens is critical, whilst also looking for lateral evolutions as well. I feel the current board and management have put in place a sound strategy that will generate further success for the industry and all industry participants.
- To further pursue API’s strategic direction, it would be of great benefit if prospective Directors could contribute advocacy, policy and/or digital communications experience to the Board. What is your experience in one or more of these areas?
As a CEO in the industry sector, I along with many others are well placed to contribute to the API’s strategic direction. I am passionate about advocating for a stronger sector, and increasing our relevance to those stakeholder groups that need our guidance which in turns promotes opportunities for the industry and its members. For too long Valuers and property professionals are the hidden specialist, and by the creation and implementation of a strong advocacy agenda this can change.
- In general, what can you bring to the API and why should members elect you?
I feel what has been achieved since the new national business model has been profound, yet due to the change in leadership and the evolution of the strategy and the team to deliver it, the benefits have not yet been fully realised by the members. I can assure all members however that as an existing director the building blocks are in place and the next phase of the sectors evolution is now visible and in reach, which is why I remain motivated to contribute to the API board on behalf of its members.
