DEMOLITION of the Chan Building is set to commence as part the $200 million Darwin City revitalisation project.
The project is part of the Civic and State Square masterplan, a partnership with the federal government and City of Darwin.
Demolition of the Chan building is the next step of the State Square overhaul that has already seen the completion of the underground car park. A number of other City Deal projects ready to start, out for public tender or about to be released including the Charles Darwin University City Campus; Austin Lane Revamp; and State Square Art Gallery.
Minister for Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics, Eva Lawler said these projects will support local jobs throughout the coronavirus pandemic and to help businesses get ready to rebound.
“The Chan Building demolition will create over 50 local jobs and support many local businesses.
“Seeing the Civic and State Square Masterplan come to life is further cementing the Territory as the capital of Northern Australia, and a great place to live and visit.” Lawler said.
