LENDLEASE Engineering and CIMIC’s company CPB Contractors have won the $644 million earthworks contract for the construction of Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport.
This is one of Australia’s largest ever bulk earthworks infrastructure projects to be awarded outside of the mining sector.
More than 35 heavy dump trucks and 60 scrapers will move up to 75,000 cubic metres of material per day to excavate and place a total of 25 million cubic metres of earth throughout the project.
This is the second project awarded by Western Sydney Airport to the joint venture, following award of an early earthworks package in July 2018.
Work will commence later this year and is scheduled to be completed in 2022.
