SENTINEL Property Group has completed its new $10 million outdoor food and entertainment precinct at its DFO Cairns in Westcourt, as retail landlords continue to shake up their offerings to attract shoppers amid a tough retail climate.
The DFOOD precinct in Westcourt was constructed by Hutchinson Builders and includes a children’s playground area, green space, a large outdoor LED movie screen, cafés and restaurants.
Hospitality offerings include an Italian restaurant, a gourmet burger bar, a Sushi bar and an ice creamery.
“DFOOD will be a food precinct where people can not only indulge in great food but also enjoy watching big games or events on the outdoor screen,” Sentinel’s managing director, Warren Ebert said.
The new precinct will also include space for food trucks, and a market area that will operate on a casual leasing pop-up basis.
“This will be an opportunity for local community organizations, TAFE colleges, sporting groups and other charitable organizations to showcase their ideas and make great food offerings to raise money,” he said.
Sentinel will provide infrastructure such as marquee, power, hot plate BBQ and refrigeration for these.
