LOCAL company Tomazos Group has won a bid to deliver a new $32 million, 450-space car park in Darwin’s CBD.
Minister for Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics Nicole Manison announced that Tomazos Group was awarded the tender to build the new 450-space, three level underground car park, which will create 60 direct jobs and support an additional 165 jobs during construction.
The project will create more green space in the CBD, by freeing up four car parks for re-development.
“This means instead of unsightly car parks, we will see improved parklands, green initiatives, walkways and improved amenities.
“This project marks the start of the State Square redevelopment, which will ultimately see the relocation of the bus terminal, the demolition of the Chan building and improved and activated laneways, walkways, cycle paths and relaxing/social areas,” Manison said.
The car park development is one of a number of big revitalisation projects about to get underway in Darwin’s CBD, as part of the government’s bid to breathe new life into the CBD.
“We can expect to see a lot of work in the CBD over coming months, which is great news for the construction industry, and great news for CBD retailers and shop owners.
“These projects are game changers for the CBD, and will unlock further economic development in retail, hospitality and tourism.” Minister Manison concluded.
