CONTRACTOR Multiplex has been appointed to deliver the $66.5 million Stage 1C of the Werribee Mercy Hospital.
Construction began on Friday on the second of the six development stages following the contractor’s appointment by Mercy Health in partnership with the Victorian Department of Health and Services.
The stage includes a four-level extension with six operating theatres, 64-bed inpatient unit with eight critical care beds and a new central sterile supply department.
It will also feature a stand-alone multi-level car park, and the replacement of façade components of Stage 1A.
The Stage 1C project was designed by Architectus, and the entirety of Stage 1 is expected to be completed by the middle of next year.
Multiplex regional managing director Graham Cottam said the group had developed a strong reputation for its expertise in delivering successful projects in the health sector and stand well placed to overcome the challenges associated with carrying out construction works in a live hospital campus environment.
Elements of the construction, including extending the existing operating lift and stair shafts, the loading dock and the kitchen will need to be delivered as these sections remain active.
