HIGHLY regarded Melbourne valuer John Hatcher joined a unique group of Australian property leaders yesterday by being named a ‘Legend of the Australian Property Institute (Vic).
Only seven ‘Legends’ had been named prior to John Hatcher ‘elevation’ into the one of Australia’s most prestigious honours and he joins Bill Shelton (2007), Malcolm Gray (2007), Chris Lee (2008), Bill McHarg (2008), Rod Fitzroy (2010), Geoff Sutherland (2010) and Bruce Bartrop (2012).
The award was presented to Hatcher by API Fellow John Forsyth at the final API Fellows Luncheon for 2014 at the Grand Hyatt.
Forsyth acknowledged Hatcher’s contribution to the property industry over many decades.
“John has displayed great dedication and enormous tenacity throughout his career. He has an incredible fighting spirit and is a very loyal person,”
Hatcher began his career as a valuer at the City of Northcote and ultimately became a director at CBRE. He is now retired and spends his time playing golf.
The inaugural ‘Legend’ Bill Shelton was not in attendance yesterday, but he says one ‘Legend was plenty’; and two ‘more than sufficient’.
Goodness knows how he will react to an eighth member joining “his elite club”, but will no doubt acknowledge he is in good company.
