The 2014 EIPA winners were announced at the black-tie function held at a packed Peninsula C – Shed 14 in Docklands.
API (Vic) President Aldo Galante said the dual-tower Quays apartments complex on Harbour Esplanade in Docklands earned MAB the coveted Award for outstanding work in the development of single or a group of buildings or structures, land development or infrastructure.
Designed by multi-award winning architects McBride Charles Ryan, The Quays comprises 617 apartments as well as gym, swimming pool, providore, residents’ club, boardroom, rooftop garden and tennis court.
Lend Lease’s unique Forté development won the Pinnacle PR Environmental Development Award.
Galante said Forté, Australia’s first timber high-rise apartment building and the tallest in the world, stood out for its outstanding treatment of environmental issues. The 10-storey structure is also Australia’s first accredited 5 Star Green-Star As Built certified on market residential building and comprises 23 units.
The Lee Property Property Industry Award was won by Hickory Group and The Maloney Group for the formulation of Hickory Building Systems, a modular building system offering an alternative construction methods for medium and high-rise residential, hotel, education, aged care and hospital facilities.
The $1.7 million redevelopment of the Carrum Surf Life Saving earned Kingston City Council the Land Victoria Local Government Award for a project that contributes to the local community.
“The Council rebuilt the Club after severe storm damage in early 2010 deemed the original building unsafe and was demolished, and the work to bring the Club back to the community has had a hugely positive impact on the area,” Galante said.
The new Club building was designed by Peter Wright & Associates and built by Cornerstone Constructions Pty Ltd.
Little Projects was awarded the Australian Property Journal Heritage Property Award for its $215 million, six-building Tip Top Brunswick East apartment development, built on the former site of the Tip Top Mill and designed by architects Rothelowman.
Generation Healthcare REIT took out the Preston Rowe Paterson Joe Curlewis Property Trust Industry Award, which recognises a listed or unlisted property trust, or property syndicate for outperformance and innovation.
The API Young Achiever of the Year Award had dual winners, namely CBRE’S Amy McGrath and Michaela Nikakis of Brookfield Multiplex.
