THE South Australian government has appointed John Hanlon as the new chief executive of the state's urban renewal authority, Renewal SA.
Hanlon was formerly deputy chief executive of the Department of Planning Transport and Infrastructure.
SA planning minister John Rau said Hanlon has a wealth of experience in the public service, specifically in the area of planning and he is widely known and respected in the industry.
“I believe he will bring significant skills to Renewal SA and this will assist them to continue their work into the future.
“I am confident Renewal SA will deliver on its promise to be a driver of economic activity in our state,” he added.
“I would like to thank Trudi Meakins who has been acting in this position for the last few months following the retirement of former Chief Executive Fred Hansen,” Rau said.
The Urban Development Institute of Australia has welcomed the appointment.
UDIA SA executive director Terry Walsh said through his deputy and acting chief executive roles with the Department of Planning Transport and Infrastructure, he has proven himself as a strong performer.
“He has worked well with developers and councils in the past to achieve planning reforms that have enabled successful development in both fringe and infill locations.
“In particular, we look forward to continuing to work with Renewal SA to help the state government facilitate development opportunities through the provision of core infrastructure support to projects and facilitating land parceling in infill locations.” Walsh said.
