JOHN Holland has been appointed head contractor for the construction of the new $180 million facility for the University of Sydney Business School.
The new facility will include over 34,000 sqm of total building gross floor area. John Holland executive general manager for infrastructure Chris Evans said the complex project would involve the creation of innovative teaching and learning spaces over five levels ranging from case study and seminar rooms to a large 550-seat lecture theatre and a learning hub.
John Holland group managing director Glenn Palin said the contract award further recognises the company as a leading provider of educational facilities in Australia.
“John Holland has a strong track record in constructing tertiary facilities, including the redevelopment of the Southbank Institute of Technology in Queensland, Urbanest student accommodation facilities in both Brisbane and Adelaide and the Medical Sciences buildings and Institute of Marine & Antarctic Studies at the University of Tasmania,” he pointed out.
University of Sydney Vice-Chancellor Dr Michael Spence said the building will be the flagship home for the University of Sydney Business School.
“The construction of this site will provide a state-of-the-art learning environment for the next generation of business leaders and world-class facilities that will benefit the entire University community,” Dr Spence said.
Construction is scheduled to commence during July 2013, and be completed in early 2015.
