THE Victorian government agency, Places Victoria, is looking for developers to redevelop a 2.39 ha land parcel, the largest site in Junction Place in the regional town of Wodonga.
Junction Place is an urban renewal project of a former railway station site in Wodonga, being delivered by the Urban Renewal Authority. Development of the 10 ha site will be brought to market over a 10 year period as they become development ready.
The 2.39 ha land parcel is located between Watson, Smythe and South streets in the north western corner of Junction Place.
Places Victoria general manager business and regional development Nick Foa said the site would be open to the market through a Request for Proposal (RFP) process.
“This process calls on proposals from the market to develop and operate a commercial, mixed use or retail development on the site. Today begins the period where we can field bids from the market and once that is closed the real work begins in reviewing and working through bids received.
“Hopefully we’ll then deal with a preferred bidder and start the commercial negotiations,” he added.
Foa said there has already been some encouraging initial market interest in this site.
“This would be the third parcel or precinct in Junction Place to go to market. Junction Place encompasses nearly 10 ha of land zoned for mixed use development, and offers significant new retail, residential and commercial development opportunities to the market.
“We’ve already had a wonderful outcome for the Station Building with Jodie Jones and Steve Carne to open their new Broadgauge restaurant at the western end of this historic building in June.
“We are also currently working with a preferred bidder for the entertainment and supporting retail precinct,” he continued.
The bid process for the 2.39 ha site will close at 3pm on Wednesday, 29 May 2013.
