VICTORIAN planning minister Matthew Guy has released 8 ha of additional land as part of a review of the inconsistencies in Melbourne’s urban growth boundary.
Guy said the Urban Growth Boundary Anomalies Advisory Committee report will settle long-term issues with anomalies in the Dandenong and Frankston municipalities.
“The completion of this review will lead to some urban boundary modifications where anomalies existed. This will see the boundary applied in a sensible way. This is the most thorough and transparent review Victoria has ever undertaken for non-growth area metropolitan boundary changes.
“Submissions to this review from councils and landowners went through a comprehensive planning process. Extensive community consultation and robust probity have been features of this important review, in direct contrast to the previous Labor Government’s boundary changes. In addition, the entire process has had the oversight of an independent probity auditor,” Guy said.
With the support of the relevant councils, the Advisory Committee and the Coalition Government, approximately 8 ha are to be included in the Urban Growth Boundary.
The anomalies included are:
· 4.95 ha at 525-599 McClelland Drive Langwarrin (Peninsula Private Hospital);
· 4,216 sqm at 462 Springvale Rd and 81-143 Clarke Rd Springvale South;
· 433 sqm at 516-522 Springvale Rd Springvale South; and
· 2.56 ha at 159-171 and 173-191 Clarke Rd Springvale South.
The committee recommended that the Bangholme Precinct (bounded by Eumemmerring Creek, Frankston-Dandenong Road, Harwood Road and EastLink, Bangholme) not be included because it represented a major change in established policy and the land would be better considered in the City of Greater Dandenong’s Green Wedge Review.
Amendments to the Frankston and Greater Dandenong Planning Schemes will be made to include the anomalies within the boundary.
