SAVILLS Australia is expanding its hotel business with the appointment of Michael Simpson as managing director.
Simpson joins Savills from Ryan Lawyers & Ryan Capital Advisors, where he advised as legal and corporate advisor for the buying, selling and development of hotels, both as single assets and portfolios for a number of years.
He also spent approximately four years in the Middle East where he was deputy director development operations, responsible for running a hospitality and resorts development group, developing 25 hotels with an end project value of $USD35 billion.
Savills CEO Paul McLean said Simpson will further strengthen the company’s global hotel offer, which already comprises a 40-strong international team based throughout Asia, Europe and the USA.
“We are excited to have Michael on board. The hotels sector has good momentum, with strong growth prospects, so a strong presence in both Australia and New Zealand is required, to take advantage of our growing global platform.” McLean said.
Simpson said he is excited to have the opportunity to grow this sector of the Savills business.
In other news, Savills’ Notting Hill industrial team is now the largest in Melbourne’s south-east following the appointment of a new senior executive.
Chris Telley, formerly of the firm’s CBD industrial division, has been promoted to a new role at Notting Hill.
Notting Hill office director Lynton Williams said the office, which opened just three years ago in January 2010, now boasted the largest industrial team in the region with the rapid population growth of Melbourne’s south-eastern suburbs a key driver.
Meanwhile Savills recently appointed Simon Fenn as its new managing director – New South Wales. Fenn joins Savills from CBRE, where he has held a number of key senior sales and management positions during the past 20 years.
