LEND Lease has won a $110 million contract by the University of Technology, Sydney to construct an 18,413 sqm faculty building designed by world renowned architect, Frank Gehry.
The Dr Chau Chak Wing Building will be the first building in Australia designed by Frank Gehry. Based on the concept of a tree house, the 12-storey building in Ultimo has a highly distinctive design that will see it become a Sydney landmark.
Lend Lease’s project management and construction business in Australia managing director Murray Coleman said the award highlighted Lend Lease’s long term track record in delivering innovative and unique building projects.
An integral component of the UTS’s City Campus Master Plan, the Dr Chau Chak Wing building will provide teaching, learning and office accommodation for the UTS Business School. The building will become a key destination point with a publicly accessible café, roof terrace and additional parking for cars and bikes.
Early works on the site were completed in July 2012 with full construction scheduled to commence late this year. The project will be completed in 2014.
