THE South Australian Government has appointed Michael Burdett, a director of Alexander Symonds, as the state's new surveyor general.
Burdett will succeed Peter Kentish and is the first private sector appointment to the role in over 40 years.
Alexander Symonds managing director Jim Curnow says Burdett’s selection as surveyor general is excellent news for the development industry and the state.
“Mike is one of the most experienced and well respected surveyors in the country and has been a terrific asset for Alexander Symonds for more than 20 years.
“His knowledge of surveying practices is exceptional so his appointment as the state’s new surveyor-general is thoroughly deserved,” he added.
Burdett becomes South Australia’s 22nd surveyor general since Colonel William Light first assumed the role back in 1836 when the site for Adelaide was originally chosen.
He will be responsible for the issuing, monitoring and policing of survey practice standards throughout SA along with other significant statutory responsibilities.
