BROOKFIELD Multiplex is celebrating its 50th year of business in Australia.
The former Multiplex Construction business was founded in 1962 by the late John Roberts AO and originally started as a small construction firm in Perth named after a cactus ‘Echinopsis Multiplex’ which multiplies rapidly.
Brookfield Asset Management acquired Multiplex in 2007 and has delivered more than $41 billion in projects across Australia alone, including some of the most recognisable such as Stadium Australia and The Wharf at Woolloomooloo in New South Wales, Hilton Surfers Paradise and Suncorp Stadium in Queensland, Federation Square and Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre in Victoria and Burswood Resort and Casino, the Perth Seawater Desalination Plant, and the new Brookfield Place, Perth in Western Australia.
“We are obviously very proud of the achievements made by the business over the last 50 years and in awe of the people who helped to build the company and contribute to its success. From humble beginnings as a small business in Perth, our cranes and completed projects have represented Brookfield Multiplex all over the country since the early 1960s,” CEO John Flecker said.
