WATPAC has won the contract to design and construct the new $55 million Municipal Building for the City of Greater Dandenong.
The new fiveâ€storey building will be built on the corner of Walker and Lonsdale streets and will house the city’s new administration offices, a public library, a council chamber, community meeting rooms and a variety of retail stores.
Watpac Construction’s Victorian state manager Nick Pavlovic said the win was significant for the company, and contributed to its strong government and community construction portfolio in Victoria.
“This landmark project is one of the City of Greater Dandenong’s most significant infrastructure projects to date. We’re delighted to be selected as the preferred contractor on the project and to contribute to providing new community facilities that are integral to the revitalisation of the city.
“We’re also pleased to be working alongside Lyons architects who are known for delivering iconic and award winning public buildings,” he added.
The project includes constructing a new civic square to accommodate up to 2,500 people. This area will feature an events stage, café, outdoor space and extensive hard and soft landscaping – much like the renowned Federation Square.
The project is being designed to achieve fiveâ€star Green Star design and asâ€built ratings and is scheduled to be completed by December 2013.
