THIS is one Hilton hotel heiress Paris Hilton is unlikely to revisit anytime soon.
Hilton and Ramtron Australia are planning to open a new $65 million hotel at Karratha in the Pilbara region. Ramtron Australia is a consortium led by local Western Australian developer Rothchester Hotel and Resorts Pty Ltd. The consortium also includes well known Karratha identity Kim Loxton, Tang Weng Fei of Singapore-based Ramtron Oil International Ltd, and Perth-based company AYR International Pty Ltd.
The proposed new hotel will be a seven-storey facility with 144 four-star rooms, 20 executive apartments, a restaurant and meeting and function rooms. The hotel will be branded as a ‘Doubletree Hotel’ and is Hilton’s first venture into a regional setting in the southern hemisphere.
Hilton Australasia vice president development Robert Scullin said the hotel is strategically located to support the ever growing demand from the resources sector.
WA Regional Development and Lands Minister Brendon Grylls said this is a significant investment decision by Hilton.
“There has been substantial private sector investment in the resources industry in the Pilbara, but we are now seeing investment in a range of other industries, including residential developments, commercial, retail and industrial projects and this significant tourism-related project,” he added.
Detailed planning and design for the hotel is progressing with construction due to commence in early 2013 and completion scheduled for mid-2014.
