HANSEN Yuncken has completed construction and fitout of the Medica Centre in Hurstville – Australia’s first all digital acute care hospital.
The $150 million project in Sydney’s south-west is considered Australia’s most advanced private hospital, consisting 18 levels of which half are below ground.
The ground floor contains eight retail suites, with the first floor containing six multi-disciplinary prefabricated operating theatres by Maquet in Germany. A further six levels have been designed as medical consultant suites with a chemotherapy unit.
Hansen Yuncken’s NSW state manager Chris Bulmer the complexities of the brief are borne out by the fact this is the most advanced facility of its type in Australia, and because 9 of the 18 floors are basement levels.
“We also faced considerable amendments to the project brief in the early stages, including the addition of radiology bunkers in the basement.
“The footprint of the building also extends to the property boundaries, so we required approvals and support from neighbouring properties such as for the shoring system for the 30-metre deep, 88,000 cubic metre basement excavation,” he concluded.
